Johanna Roffino Hulsey

Johanna Roffino-Hulsey is a teacher and art juror, a graphic designer, and a fine artist specializing in portraits. Johanna founded the Art Hotel gallery and studio in 2008 with the goal to create a place that art lovers can learn more about art and each other. This community gallery brings professional artist in to mentor art students. The instructor shares techniques then the students create art with their support. Students display their work in the gallery along with industry professionals. This project has been well received and recommendations are on our news page.
Johanna has a background in Graphic Design and has worked in this field for over 15 years. Freelance clients include: J.C. Penney, Golden Books, and Lexicon Vocabulary where her cartoon illustrations of vocabulary definitions were part of a program that won Parents Choice award for multimedia.
As a designer and development artist for Micrografx Inc. she created product content including, interface, clip art and illustration for educational, home, and small business software. Her Illustrations were awarded by the Society of Technical Communication.
Today Johanna lives and works in the Dallas area. She is proud of the art community in this region and stays actively involved in it. She continually studies art and design through college courses and workshops. Volunteer efforts include fundraising for White Rock Montessori, Art Conspiracy, Toast to Life and Bras for the Dance of Life – Bras for Breast Cancer exhibit/auction, logo design for Cedars Arts District Studio Tour. Young American Talent and other support for young artists. Johanna is a juror for North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts, the Garland and Rockwall school district art competitions, and Booker T. Washington Visual Arts Guild Scholarship Board.
Group art workshop clients for special projects include White Rock Montessori, and La Reunion “Chicas Unidas”. She’s also taught for Richardson and Plano ISD art enrichment programs. Johanna is honored by the talented students she tutors. Many have been awarded advanced placement opportunities.
Sculpture and 2D art by Johanna is shown in local, regional and national venues. Exhibits include the following galleries: The Bath House Cultural Center, The Ice House Cultural Center, Art Center of Plano, TVAA Plaza of the Americas, Medical City Dallas, Café Izmir, Absinthe Lounge, Club DADA, Hal Samples Gallery, DSVC, STC, AHG Gallery, the MAC, and LuminArte.
Johanna also curates and installs exhibits at the Art Hotel featuring a widevariety of talented artists. Exhibit Installations include: Dia de los Muertos, Black History Tribute with C.Kirk, Love Song, Her Story, TVAA Signature Show 2009, and Meltdown with the Texas Wax Group.
